Essentially a webtelevision venture, REAL NEWS is headquartered in Toronto and has ambitious plans to counter the hegemonic perspective and flow of news currently prevailing in the world.

Sashi Kumar, chairperson of the Media Development Foundation and Asian College of Journalism, is the India director on the board of REAL NEWS and its holding Trust, IWT (International World Television). The team has been working on this for a few years now. The international advisory board includes several well-known journalists.

The operations of REAL NEWS will be delivered out of co-equal nodal hubs in North America (already set up in Toronto and New York) and India (in the process of being set up), but it will cover the entire world.

The channel will steer clear of sponsorships and commercials and place itself squarely in the public sphere. The venture depends on public support and goodwill in its effort to present a challenge to the dominant and domineering news narrative of our times. Public events are planned in various locations in India to spread awareness about the channel.
