The Indian women's movement has been a 'Journey from purdah to power', writes Rina Mukherji in her review of Our pictures, our words – a visual journey through the women’s movement by Rajashri Dasgupta and Laxmi Murthy. The book traces the roots of the Indian feminist movement from its "earliest, unsure steps to the broad-based war cry against all gender-based injustice" (d-sector, May 21, 2012). Meena Menon's book Riots and after in Mumbai also brings back memories, but those that Sameera Khan would rather forget. But 'Please remember', she writes in her review. (Himal Southasian, May 25, 2012). "For many of us, the riots were and continue to be the most significant event in our lives."
Incidentally, Rina, Rajashri, Laxmi, Meena and Sameera are all NWM-I members
