Fourth NWMI meet agenda

This is a tentative schedule for the Kolkota meet.

Friday, 3 February 2006:

10 am to 12:30 pm: Documentary film show: A day in the life of a hangman by Joshy Joseph (duration 80 mins). Director Joshy will be at the venue to introduce the film and interact afterwards.

1 pm to 2 pm: Lunch ( registration of participants present: Rs 200 per head) at the venue.

5 pm to 8 pm: Inauguration and panel discussion

Subject: "Media, war and conflict: will the media in South Asia give peace a chance?"

Chair: Kalpana Sharma, Deputy editor and Mumbai Chief of Bureau of The Hindu (India)

9:30 am to 11 am: Discussion

  • " Why gender is not a niche issue" ; Speaker: Ammu Joseph (15 minutes)
  • " Gender budgeting"; Speaker : Dr Nirmala Bannerjee, economist(15 minutes)ss

11 am to 11-15 am : Tea Break

11-15 am to 12:15 pm:

Chair : Dr Jasodhara Bagchi , Chairperson, State Women's Commission

  • Felicitation of Vidya Munshi, the oldest and one of the first women reporters
  • Presentation: Bengal network

12:15 pm to 1:30 pm:

Co-chairs from NWMI: Laxmi Murthy(Delhi) and Akhileswari (Hyderabad)

  • Discussion on setting up of a South Asia network of women journalists

1:30 pm to 2:30 pm: Lunch Break

2:30 pm to 5 pm: Presentation

Co-chairs from NWMI: Deepa Kandaswamy(Chennai) and Linda Chhakchhuak(North-east network)

Presentation by regional networks (10 mins each )

Tea break
: 3pm to 3:15 pm

Discussion on the presentations follow.

Sunday, 5 February 2006:

10 am to 2 pm with tea break (11 am-11-15 am )

The day starts with a 15 minutes’ demonstration by yoga expert on how to relax while at work, it being one of the most stressful professions.

10:15 am: Session starts

Co-chairs from NWMI: Payal Kumar(Delhi) and Meena Menon(Mumbai)

Subject: Future activities

  • Brainstorming on NWMI future programmes etc.
  • Anjali Mathur speaks on the future activities of the e-group and website. (7 mins)
  • Anju Munshi on the freelancers' difficulties to get timely payments
  • Rina Mukherjee on the age-limits for scholarships/fellowships which leaves out women who starts late due to personal reasons.
    (Participants are welcome to discuss relevant topics).
  • Feedback on the Kolkata meet and Future NWMI Meet

2 pm to 2:30 pm: Lunch
Invitations to creative writers, theatre persons, etc. for interaction with participants.

2:30 pm to 4 pm: Post-lunch discussion

Subject: Gender and censorship

Moderators: Shoma.A.Chaterjee and Ranjita Biswas(Kolkata)
