Bengal Network's letter to the Sexual Harassment Committee

The Chairperson,
Sexual Harassment Committee,
The Statesman

Kolkata
March 20, 2003

Dear Ms Sajeda Momin,
The Bengal Network of Women Journalists aims to provide a forum for women in media professions to share information and resources, exchange ideas, promote media awareness and ethics, and work for gender equality and justice within the media and society. We are part of the Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI), an all-India association.

We appreciate that the management of The Statesman has set up a Sexual Harassment Cell for the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment in the workplace. We hope this will contribute in ensuring a healthier work atmosphere for both male and female colleagues in The Statesman and also encourage other media houses to set up similar cells.

According to the Supreme Court guidelines, the sexual harassment cell
should include an independent, third party representative well versed in the issue.

Might you require our assistance on any related matter in the future we
would be happy to cooperate.

Yours sincerely,

Ananya Chatterjee & Rajashri DasGupta
Convenors
Bengal Network of Women Journalists
